How To Steam Your Face At Home

Steaming the face is the best way to thoroughly deep clean your pores, to get rid of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. It is very important to loosen debris that may be embedded into the skin.

When steaming you wide the clogged pores and soften the skin in order to cleanse more easily the impurities, the traces of makeup, the dust, the sebaceous secretions as well as the dead skin cells. The high temperature helps the pores to open and this way your body will clear from the toxins and the cosmetic products will reach every skin cell. After steaming it will be more easily for you to remove the comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and the little pimples.

If your skin is oily you can use thyme, peppermint or lemon, for sensitive use chamomile or lime, those with normal skin can use rose, rosemary or lavender.

Steps:

  1. Boil a pan of water and after few minutes remove the pan from the stove.
  2. Add fresh herbs to create a fresh scent such as mint, chamomile and rosemary.
  3. Stand directly over the steam and drape a small towel over your head for keeping the steam from escaping because it will be more effective in opening the clogged pores.
  4. Stay 10-15 minutes until the steam disappears and rinse the face with lukewarm water.

You can steam the face twice a week without worries – it won’t harm your skin.

The best time for applying facial mask is after steaming, because the pores are open and mask will be able to penetrate deeply into the skin. If you want to remove the comedones wrap a tissue around your fingers and apply gentle pressure to each side of the comedones. Squeeze them gently but never squeeze violently because it may lead to scarring.

After steaming always apply some tonic to disinfect the skin and apply hydrating cream.

Be careful not to burn your face. You shouldn’t feel any discomfort.

so I have used the steam on my face, but I had a question, right after I steamed it, I went to the sink & rubbed Biore pore unclogging on it & then washed it with warm water & then cold water right after that, Is that the correct way?

can i steam my face more than twice a week?

  7. Silvia Yaneva Silvia Yaneva wrote

yes you can steam your face more than twice a week but honestly I do not see a point doing it – after steaming your face you should `close` the pores by applying a facial mask for example. There is no point in applying facial mask more than twice a week.

  8. Silvia Yaneva Silvia Yaneva wrote

    Dear Hema,

you should cleanse your face before steaming it making sure you have removed your makeup. After steaming your face apply a facial mask to close the pores.

  9. Silvia Yaneva Silvia Yaneva wrote

dear Jennifer, yes this is the correct way for steaming your face. Firstly you should wash your face with warm water to remove any impurities and then use cold water to close the pores.

This works wonderfully!!!! I started doing this about 3 weeks ago and noticed my blackheads from 2 previous pimples started to disappear within a week. I had been trying to get rid of them for about a month, they were fading but no fast enough until I started steaming my face. Also I’ve only had one pimple since, and as soon as I felt it coming, I steamed and it was gone the next morning. I actually clean my face with Olay daily facials first, then steam for 15 mins, afterwards I gently pat dry with a paper towel and apply a little bit of warm water to my face, then I use either a scrub “black head and break out cleansing scrub”, then a toner to close the pores back up. Also I feel so good afterwards and my face feels refreshed. I’ve been doing this twice a week, Sunday’s and Weds.

I am confused about HOW long i should steam my face. It says in the beginning, " Stay 10/ 15 minutes until the steam disappears and rinse the face with lukewarm water…."
However in the last paragraph it says, "Sitting for about 5-7 minutes, your skin should be softened and opened. Don’t go longer than 8 minutes, or then your skin will start to get wrinkly being in the steam directly."…. ?!

When I steam my face (I use a facial sauna system from walmart) I always use green tea instead of water. Green tea has detoxifing and anti aging benefits. It works AMAZINGLY 🙂

  59. Kiara Kiara wrote

    Oh, and lokesh:
You can use face packs 🙂 I suggest using a homeade one (my favs are a chocolate mask and an avacado one both compliments to bubzbeauty) Homeade ones are REALLY beneficial. They work the best because they don't have any funky chemecals. Organic and natural things are what the body and skin love the most and will soak up. 🙂 hope this helps!
